About the event

The CCIN, in partnership with the Confederation of Co-operative Housing (CCH), is hosting a focused webinar for member councils to explore the latest thinking, opportunities and challenges in co-operative and community-led housing. Chaired by Cllr Paul Cassidy, CCIN Vice-Chair (Inverclyde Council) the session will feature short presentations followed by discussion.

What to expect
Examples, barriers and emerging lessons for councils – Milli Patel – Chair of CCIN Values & Principles Board and Deputy Leader – Brent
Milli will highlight some of the exemplary co-operative developments featured in the CCIN community-led housing report and outline the key challenges and barriers that councils face when supporting or developing co-operative housing. She will also reflect on the limited awareness of co-operative housing across the development sector — illustrated by the finding that around 95% of UKREiiF visitors were unfamiliar with co-operatives beyond the retail model — and give a brief update on progress with the Brent Community Land Trust.

Policy asks and what councils can do – Helen Bartlett, CCH
Helen will introduce the key themes from the CCH Manifesto 2024, which is centred on policy asks aimed at enabling co-operative and community-led housing. She will outline what councils can do locally — and what changes are needed nationally — to support the growth of co-operative models.

Additional speakers
Further contributions from CCIN member councils will be confirmed shortly.
