Today, the Cooperative Councils’ Innovation Network proudly supports Wear Red Day — a powerful national moment of solidarity, visibility, and commitment to equality.
As a network built on cooperative values, we are clear that racism has no place in our communities, our councils, or our public institutions.
The values & principles that guide cooperative councils including equality, solidarity, democratic participation and fairness, mean challenging discrimination wherever it occurs and work together to build communities where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to thrive.
Across our communities the impact of racism can be felt in housing, education, employment, and people’s everyday lives. Tackling racism is not an optional extra. It is fundamental to delivering fairer public services and strengthening trust between councils and the communities they serve.
By wearing red today, we reaffirm that:
– Equality is a core cooperative principle, not a slogan.
– Anti‑racism requires action, listening, learning, and changing systems.
– Local government has a vital role in building inclusive and welcoming communities.
– Solidarity matters — and by standing together we can help bring about lasting change.
To everyone across our member councils & network taking part in Wear Read Day, thank you for demonstrating cooperative leadership and solidarity.
Together, we stand against racism, and alongside our communities.
Wear red. Take a stand. Build a fairer future.
