Members’ Update May 2023

  • 28th Apr 2023

This month's newsletter features ideas on how councils can work co-operatively to save our planet by adopting plant-based menus in their catering policies.

Dear

A cooperative welcome to this edition of Update

Saturday 22nd April was Earth Day; many of you will have attended events to demonstrate your support for environmental protection.  This month’s newsletter features ideas on how councils can work co-operatively to save our planet by adopting plant-based menus in their catering policies.  There’s also a free event from the Urban Agriculture Consortium looking at how councils can unlock public land for food growing.

In this month’s edition, several of our Affiliate members are offering member and officer training.  We also share opportunities for you to get involved in Co-op Fortnight and a Co-op Hackathon.

Congratulations to those councils and organisations shortlisted for the UK Public Procurement Awards.

Working with the Co-operative College, we have developed two certified training programmes – an Induction and Key Themes for Co-operative Councils.  We recommend that councillors and officers undertake both programmes to get the most out of your membership.  Find out more here.

Saturday, 6th May, will mark the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.  We wish them a happy and prosperous reign.   It’s a chance for all of us to reflect on the many reasons we’re proud to be British, to come together and celebrate.

We are planning another session on Regional Community Banking to include experts from across the four nations who are actively involved in developing the new economy.  Please pencil in 2 pm – 4 pm on Tuesday, 20th June; we will confirm as soon as possible.

Finally, good luck to everyone that is standing for election on May 4th; I wish you well.

I hope that you enjoy this edition of Update.

Best wishes

Louise
