Members’ Update February 2023

  • 1st Feb 2023

A cooperative welcome to this edition of Update. This month I am delighted to welcome and introduce some of the new members of the Values and Principles Board, notably the new Chair, Cllr Sarah Doyle – Assistant Mayor & Cabinet Member for Development & Economy from Liverpool City Council. We still have a vacancy for an Associate Member.

With the deadline approaching for the submission of Policy Lab and Prototypes – we have calls from Trafford, Cheshire West and Chester and Cardiff Councils to join them in developing three projects.  The first relates to tackling violence against women and girls, the second is looking at the further potential to develop council-owned companies delivering in the commercial sector on a cooperative basis, and the third will look at amplifying prevention in public health around increasing childhood immunisations and the uptake of bowel screenings.  The deadline for submitting your bids is 28 February.

Liverpool City Council is set to spearhead a new community-led housing revolution with city council-owned land and properties to be marketed to local organisations. A report to the city council’s Cabinet recommends adopting a Community Led Housing (CLH) Asset Disposal Policy, which aims to unlock vacant land and properties for community groups to convert into new homes. I know that this is something that will interest many of you.

We’re excited to be co-sponsoring the Stir to Action Festival again, which this year will be held at Trafford’s Stretford Public Hall from 19-20 May.  We have 24 one-day tickets to give away; if you’ve not attended before, it’s well worth a visit.

Don’t forget to submit your Case Studies for the 2023 printed edition. We have over 100 members, so it’s difficult to chase you individually; please help us by meeting the submission deadline of Monday, 20th February.

Finally, we have several events over the next few weeks, and we hope to see some of you there.

I hope that you enjoy this edition of Update.

Best wishes

Louise
