CCIN Members’ Update – August 2022

  • 9th Aug 2022

Welcome to the August edition of Update - Congratulations to the Lionesses!

Last month we held our quarterly meeting of Leaders and Coop Leads when we heard from two of our Affiliate Members, Rose Marley, the CEO of Cooperatives UK and Mark Cook from Anthony Collins.  They shared some brilliant insights on how we can work together to grow the cooperative economy.  These meetings are open to all council members, and we were delighted to have several new councillors join the call. Rose and Mark have agreed to work with us to deliver a session on the topic at our Annual Conference in November.

After a very busy June, we are now planning our attendance at the Liberal Democrat and Labour Party Conferences in September.  It will be good to see many of you again in Brighton and Liverpool. Our Case Studies Pack is our key learning and promotional tool for events; please do continue to send us your case studies; we love to share #OurCoopDifference.

Congratulations to all the winners at the LGC Awards: Brent Council, Cardiff Council, Milton Keynes Council, and Wigan MBC.  Congratulations also to Che Kwon-Sterling, Community Action Plan Co-ordinator at Brent Council, who scooped the ‘Rising Star’ Award, and led on Brent’s Black Community Action Plan which we featured in the June Update.  Read more about the Awards below.

In July, we co-sponsored the New Economy Festival, organised by Stir to Action at their HQ in Selgars Mill, Devon.  Thanks to Rob Gregory from Stevenage and Jonathan Nunn from Kirklees, who attended the event along with Nicola Huckerby.

In this edition, we also feature reports from two of our Councils, Cheshire West & Chester and the Royal Borough of Greenwich, as they actively seek to build inclusive, cooperative economies.

I hope that you enjoy this edition.

Best wishes

Sharon
