Members’ Update – August 2025

  • 7th Aug 2025

It was wonderful to see so many members join us at the LGA Conference, where we launched the 2025 edition of the impressive Case Studies Pack. The latest edition includes 49 new case studies. We’re proud to promote member case studies as a key benefit for members – it’s a fantastic way to showcase our innovations to a broader audience.

We are pleased to welcome Camden Council as our newest Full Council member and Cornwall Council’s Labour and Cooperative Group as an Associate Member. Both signed up at the LGA Conference. In this edition, Councillor Richard Olszewski, Leader of Camden Council, explains why Camden has joined and talks about some of the cooperative working the Borough continues to invest in.

We also feature two new short videos kindly produced by the Royal Borough of Greenwich at our Annual Conference in February.  The first is a collection of interviews about the conference, and the second is a series of Vox Pops from a range of members promoting CCIN membership.  Thank you to Kristin Zimney, the Borough’s Videographer, for doing such a fantastic job.

The EOC meeting on 17 July agreed an Action Plan to review the legal and staffing structure of the Network following Nicola Huckerby’s decision to step back from her role as CEO in the Autumn.  This review included a decision to invest in a CRM system to acknowledge the exponential growth in the Network, and fulfil our strategic objective of engaging with more individuals from member councils ‘deeper, not wider’.  Read on for more on that.

Also in this edition, we share details about an event I attended at the House of Lords with Nicola Huckerby as guests of Terry Galloway, promoting our ‘Care Experience’ policy lab.

News from Oxygen Finance in their 2024 Local Authority Third-Party Spend Insight, reveals that third-party expenditure across local government in England has hit £91.8bn—up 10% from 2023 and 22% since 2022.

Finally, I invite you to Save the Date for the launch of our ‘Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls’ (TVAWG) Policy Lab report led by Trafford Council, which will take place on Tuesday, 9th September from 1:45 pm – 2:45 pm on Zoom.  If you’d like an invitation, do let us know: [email protected].  We’ll be sending out further information as the programme unfolds.

I hope that you enjoy this edition of Update, and have the opportunity for a rest over the summer.

Best wishes

Jim
