About the event

Cooperatives are transforming the digital sector, supporting the creation of decent jobs and an economy committed to fairness before profit.

The Preston Cooperative Development Network in partnership with UCLan’s Centre for SME Development, Lancashire Forum Creative programme, Preston City Council and Co-operatives UK is hosting two webinars in April 2021 to show how cooperatives are transforming the digital sector, supporting the creation of decent jobs and an economy committed to fairness before profit.

Digital Coops – Now!

Fed up with freelancing or ‘brassed off’ with your boss? This webinar is for digital and creative professionals who are looking for greater autonomy and more democracy at work and want to feel part of a movement that puts principles before profit and is committed to the wider community.

If this sounds like you, then come and hear from members of some of the UK’s leading digital cooperatives. They will describe what digital cooperatives are, how they work and how you could join one or set one up, and the funded support available to help you do that.

John Evans is a co-founder of Code-operative a non-profit service co-operative of freelance software developers based in the North East which bridges the gap between freelancers and the businesses that need them.

Mark Porter is a founder member of the Preston Digital Foundation, a unique collaboration between staff, graduates, current students and freelancers at the University of Central Lancashire. The Foundation provides innovative solutions to real-world problems and is a worker-owned cooperative.

Our last speaker is Polly Robbins from digital coop Outlandish which runs a coop co-working space called Space4 in London. Polly is also part of CoTech, a national network of co-operatives that sell tech/digital services. CoTech aims to create a better technology sector in the UK that focuses primarily on the worker, customer and end-user needs rather than on generating private profit.

We hope that you are able to attend. If you have any queries, please contact the Centre at [email protected]
