Homeshare – How 79 year old Doreen beat loneliness and put a dent in the housing crisis
Posted on 19th February, 2018
When 79-year-old Doreen Fairclough had a fall, she ended up spending months in a care home, when all she really wanted was to go to her own home.
She couldn’t quite manage on her own, and she had no family. Then a scheme called Homeshare run by a social enterprise called PossAbilities found a solution. They matched her with French Student Anouck 22. The idea was that in return for a room in Doreen’s home, Anouck would offer Doreen up to ten hours of social support. That’s the simple idea of Homeshare. It helps combat loneliness and is one way of addressing the housing crisis.
